How
do you see digital media being
an influence on you as a visual artist
and changing art making?
Digital
media is very handy when it
comes to pulling off moves that are
impossible in any other mode of art
making. The trick is knowing what is
possible, knowing your materials in
other words, and also knowing when
something would be better created
outside the computer. Watercolor
filters are great examples of this.
Paint is so much more complex than
the pixel, so I do not try to paint with
the computer. All the painted
elements in these prints are
introduced by photographing my
original paintings.
Computers provide the artist with the
potential to streamline the
development of a growing body of
images. Artists have always utilized
cutting-edge technology to make art.
This has included the printing press,
spatial perspective, the camera, and
motion film. We live in an age where
for the first time all of these
technologies are available in one
location, but in a more flexible form.
Historically, artists who have utilized
technology in original ways have
helped expand the range of human
expression.
