INSIGHT is the Photomedia Center's full color 32-page annual publication,
featuring the work of four emerging fine art photographers.

"Exercises such as these not only tease us with what is and what might be, they should serve as a reminder that digital photography is now as malleable a
medium as clay or paint. The Photomedia Center is at the forefront of this seismic shift in what we see, how we see it, and more importantly, what we can
believe with our own eyes."

With roots in Victorian tableaux vivants, contemporary artists are continuing the tradition of photographs as theatre,
presenting a still shot of what could be one frame from a full, narrative story—creating worlds that delve deep into
our collective consciousness, poking around in the recesses of the mind to illuminate issues pertaining to the
human condition.

Still photography may at first seem rather limited in comparison to its cinematic film counterpart, but whereas films
tend to give us more answers, a narrative photograph makes us search for the message, and may only give us
more questions.

This issue of INSIGHT uses the work of four emerging photographers to discuss the genre of staged photography
and the issues surrounding it. This type of directorial photography provides the viewer with an exquisite interplay
between the truth and the artificial, and points out that the line separating the two is quite blurred, almost
indistinguishable with each passing day.

We have invested the photograph with an authority to tell us the truth, and amazingly, for now, we still believe what
it reflects. But as these photographers show, always beware of the half-truths and lies hidden in each shot. These
actually, might be the most telling of all.
